Victoria records 1,890 new COVID cases, crowds of 10,000 to be allowed at Melbourne Cup

 Victoria has recorded 1,890 new cases of COVID-19 and five people have died as plans to hold events with thousands of fully vaccinated people in less than a month have been unveiled. One of the new cases was initially reported as a locally acquired case, but has since been reclassified as one that emerged in hotel quarantine. The Victorian government has announced that the Melbourne Cup will go ahead with crowds of up to 10,000 people on Tuesday, November 2.  A local government region in Melbourne’s southeast has taken over the mantle as the top Covid hotspot in Victoria. The City of Casey recorded more new cases than any other council areas on Monday, surpassing Hume as the most virus-riddled region. Health department deputy secretary Naomi Bromley said Casey recorded 174 new infections, ahead of Hume with 169. Victoria records 1,612 COVID cases and eight deaths, Pfizer and Moderna vaccine availability widens

 Victoria has recorded 1,612 new local COVID-19 cases and eight deaths, as the state government defends its plan to allow 10,000 people into the Melbourne Cup while residents are still not allowed to visit their loved ones in their homes. The new cases were detected from 73,138 test results processed yesterday, and take the state's active cases to 19,012. Five of the state's eight deaths were from Melbourne's north and west, with a woman in her 70s and a man in his 60s from Darebin, a man in his 80s from Maribyrnong, a man in his 80s from Brimbank and a woman in her 70s from Whittlesea passing away with the virus.
