What’s on in Melbourne – Things to do in Autumn

Melbourne is always full of fun events to enjoy and spectacular shows to see. I’ve put together a list of four things happening this Autumn and Winter to make it easier to decide what to enjoy in Melbourne.
1.Watch a funny play
I received two tickets to watch The Play That Goes Wrong (a London comedy hit that is currently touring Australia). The play is set as a 1920’s murder mystery and while the cast act, various types of weird, wacky, and utterly hilarious accidents take place on the set, right before your eyes.
For example, props break up, walls fall, people seem to get injured, or worse, they go missing during the performance, and that’s just the tip of the iceberg! It’s a seriously funny play, and I enjoyed being able to laugh myself silly.
If you’re looking for unpredictable, unusual live comedy to watch this show is for you.
2.Watch a speculator ballet performance
I bought tickets to see The Sleeping Beauty by the Australian Ballet at the State Theatre, after hearing how great and spectacular this production is, I have to experience it. This amazing production will showcase incredibly detailed sparkling sets and costumes (including bejeweled tutus) from the luxurious Imperial Court and the French Louis XIV period. It will also feature magical elves, nymphs, and fairies as well as other mythical characters.

The rise and rise of Ariarne Titmus, Australia's swimmer of the year

The 19-year-old was the toast of the 2019 Swimming Australia Awards in Sydney on Sunday night, cleaning up by also claiming Short Course Swimmer of the Year and sharing the Patron Award. Tasmanian-born, Brisbane-based Titmus already had plenty to celebrate in a breakout 2019 after famously dethroning American great Katie Ledecky to claim 400m freestyle gold at this year's world titles in South Korea in July. It marked the first time Ledecky – a 14-time world champion – had been beaten over 400m, 800m or 1500m freestyle at a major international meet since 2012. With koala numbers in decline, one lobby group has drafted its own protection legislation

 Wildlife rescuer Tracey Wilson lets out a familiar refrain whenever she receives a call about a lost or injured koala: "Here we go again".  It is not from a lack of love for the iconic marsupial — Ms Wilson spends countless hours helping injured koalas recuperate from all sorts of injuries and mishaps. She was one of the first people on hand when 21 koalas were found dead and 49 so horribly injured they had to be euthanased after a south-west Victorian timber plantation was cleared in 2020. Many of the koalas that survived that incident recovered at Ms Wilson's wildlife sanctuary in Koroit. Her frustration, she said, stemmed from the fact that the number of calls to help injured koalas was increasing.
